How to Plan the Perfect Staycation?

Do you need to get away, but you’re frustrated because local restrictions make it impossible to book a trip and travel? If so, it sounds like you need a staycation. A staycation is where you either plan a mini-vacation within your own home or you book a local hotel room for a couple of nights. The point is not to leave town, but still, feel like you are taking a break from your day-to-day life.

While staycations may be a little different from your typical vacation, they still have many of the same benefits that a typical vacation would provide you. We know planning a staycation may not be as exciting as booking a week-long trip out of the country or to a different state, but, if you’re in need of a getaway, we highly recommend a staycation. And to make sure you have the best staycation, we have gathered some of our favorite tips on how to plan and enjoy a staycation so that you can get started on planning! We hope this inspires you to take a break and get out of your routine for a couple of days. So go change into your most confident clothing options and get excited!

Decide What a Staycation Looks Like for You

Do you feel comfortable staying in a hotel in your city? If so, you may want to look into local hotels that are following all of the sanitation and cleaning guidelines recommended by the CDC.

If you’re not feeling safe to stay in a hotel, think about how you might be able to decorate or create an atmosphere in your own home that feels like a getaway, whether that means making sure your place is super clean and serene or filling a room with your favorite candles and new bedsheets. Whether you decide to stay in a hotel or stay at your own home for this staycation, either way it will be a breath of fresh air.

Plan a Vacation Wardrobe Fit for a Queen

What you wear has the power to dictate how you feel, so, even if you’re spending your day in a hotel room or just lounging around the house, you’ll want a wardrobe that feels flattering and comfortable.

If you’re aiming for comfort, opt for cozy loungewear that’s loose-fitting but still makes you feel confident and beautiful. If you’re looking for something more on the luxe and sexy side to really boost your confidence, style curve-hugging loungewear or wear your favorite cute plus size clothes. You can also spend your day lounging around in comfortable lounge pants paired with an off-the-shoulder sweater. If you look good, you feel good, and that’s what we want for your staycation.

Plan Activities

Whether you’re staying at home or booking a hotel room, you’ll probably find yourself experiencing a lot of down-time during this staycation, which is great. But we don’t want you to be bored while vacationing. Plan out small activities that you don’t get to do on a daily basis but would love to try—like painting your nails, doing face masks, or practicing yoga and meditation. All of these staycation activities will allow you to show yourself some love and appreciation, which will help you feel recharged and rejuvenated.

Save Up Like You’re Planning an Actual Trip

Whether you plan on booking a hotel in the city or staying at home, you’ll still want to save up—even though you won’t be spending money on things like airfare or rental cars. Why? You will want to treat yourself during your staycation because you deserve it. The more you save, the more you’ll be able to indulge in the things you love.

If your staycation is taking place in your own home, you can use the money you have saved to invest in things that will make your staycation more relaxing—like massage equipment, luxurious candles, your favorite drinks, and all the bath bombs money could buy.

Pick a Convenient Time

It’s critical to plan your staycation around a time where you know you will not be busy with work or other things. The point is to make sure you relax as much as possible. Find a slow week at work where you can take a few days off without feeling guilty about not checking your email. Or, if you’re staying home and need a break from your pets or kids, ask your roommate, significant other, or a friend to watch over them. Having uninterrupted time will be extremely beneficial and will make your staycation all the more relaxing.

Spend Time Outdoors

If you live in a climate where it’s nice outdoors around this time of the year, it may be nice to plan your staycation around activities that allow you to get outside. Getting some sun and fresh air will be beneficial to both your physical and mental health.

And the truth is: We don’t get enough time outdoors. No matter where your staycation is taking place, make sure you prioritize a daily walk or time to just sit outside. We’re spending a lot of time sitting behind desks and indoors, so this outdoor exposure could feel like a breath of fresh air, and that is what a staycation is really all about. Are you ready to plan your next staycation? We hope this guide has inspired you to take a break from it all, unwind, and relax. Get excited because you deserve a vacation just as much as anyone else!
